Things I learned today…

Welp…it was one of those days when I wake up in the morning and have no idea what’s about to hit me. And boy, did I roll with the punches today.

If you go to Waffle House, you leave with your hair smelling like Waffle House.

I feel like I made 9,782 decisions today and tried to help 453 people. It was probably not that many, but it felt like it was.

I “joked” to Keith today that I did not choose to be a doctor because I didn’t want to deal with all the things that come with being a doctor. Now here I am, kind of being a dance teacher and MOSTLY being a solver of problems, a solutions finder, a go-between, a referee, a safeguarder of children, a therapist, a helper, a comforter…

People of the World, please stop writing “alot”. We’ve been through this. The social media grammar mavens have schooled everyone. There are memes pointing out this ridiculous practice. Can we not appear completely illiterate?! It’s “a lot”…just like “a bunch”. You would never type “abunch”. Just no.

Back to Waffle House for a sec…there’s a particular girl there who is really smart and a good soul. It’s not necessarily apparent, and I’m sure many people discount her…but she is. I hope she feels it.

I’ve had quite the full two days. I am tired. A little drained. A lot flabbergasted by people and life and the way the world is. I’m not sure what we can do about it, but this week, I think I’ve come to the realization that this IS a new normal. I never wanted to say that before, as I had REFUSED to believe we couldn’t go back to whatever it is we were…but I swear…people in general have changed and not really for the better. Sorry to be cynical, but I believe it. And I guess that makes my usual quest for substance and authenticy even more challenging. Hopefully, it will also mean that substantive, genuine people become as highly regarded as rare gems.

That’s all. We learn every day, don’t we?
