Things I learned today…

A while ago, I went to the grocery store to get porkloin to smoke and all the goodies for a giant, amazing charcuterie board tomorrow. And tonight, Keith is making chicken and dumplings. Y’all. Keith’s chicken and dumplings are the best ever. Period.

Oh, and I got the stuff to make Bloody Marys…and a few snacks…and more popcorn…and my favorite ICE drinks…and pineapple juice for Mimosas…and these really good tamales I found for Tuesday’s dinner.

OK, so I went way overboard.

I’m cool now, though. Bloody Mary in hand…and wasabi peas. Do y’all like wasabi peas? Man, they will make your eyes water up, but I love’ em!

When I was about Brady’s age, I would be so punked out if my mom sang along with the music at the grocery store. And a minute ago, Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories came on, and it was nearly a “Stay” concert by me right between the English peas and the chili beans.

Oh, and I wore very little make-up to the grocery store – foundation and powder only, no eye liner, no eye lashes. I figured it would be Old Home Week, and I’d see 234 people I knew, but as it turned out, I only ran into 4 dance parents. (Unless, of course, other people saw me and were like, “Oh shit, that’s Ms. Amanda!! She looks sick and must have COVID, so let’s steer clear!!” heh.

You know, if you don’t get your tomato juice to vodka ratio just right, you end up with too much Bloody and not enough Mary.

When Keith cooks, he plays music. I’m sitting here writing and drinking. He’s pouring and slicing and flouring and singing. It’s a moment. I love it.

Speaking of music…somebody explain this Blake Shelton (“…but it’d sure be cool if you did” playing now) and Gwen Stefani thing to me. I guess there’s a lid for every pot.

I hope you’re all having a great Labor Day weekend. Keith rolls out his dumplings from scratch, and I’m going to go watch. He’s so stinkin’ cute over there singing some country song about fishing and cutting up butter into tiny, little pieces.

That’s all. We learn every day, don’t we?
