Things I learned today…

Birthdays mean the world to me, and I appreciate (and LOVE!) all the fuss over it. I am grateful to be 46, healthy, loved, surrounded by goodness, and absolutely fabulous. Everyone is not afforded those luxuries. I take nothing for granted.

Keith gave me an amethyst ring that he picked out himself. It’s beautiful. I don’t buy jewelry much. And Keith has given me only a few pieces over the years, all of which were really nice, and we have picked out a few together. His choosing this one meant the most.

Brady is into paper quilling, and she made me two sets of earrings and a card. So pretty! She made me a corner bookmark, too, and I put it the book I’m reading straight away.

Blake got me a purple mum and a super sweet birthday card. It was sitting on the counter when I got up and came into the kitchen.

It rained, complete with thunder, on my birthday! I vowed to sit and enjoy it, since it’s my favorite kind of day, so I grabbed my crochet, stopped what I was doing, and soaked it all in for a few minutes.

My event at the studio tonight was fun. I so enjoy seeing so many happy faces and meeting all our new dancers and families.

Shifting gears…all day long every day, we have plenty of opportunities to get offended. We can choose not to TAKE offense. Put that in the bank.

Also…no matter what “side” you’re on (and indeed it does not matter), always keep in mind that every policy, every requirement, every mandate, every regulation sets a precedent. Put that in the bank, too.

Lastly for the bank…the government, war, public policy, lobbying, NONE OF IT works like explained to you in Civics class. None. I’ve been in “the room where it happened” a time or two. Believe very little of what you see and even less of what you hear. Deposit that.

I’ll leave you on my birthday with this… I’ve been over the moon today, smiling, taking care of people, being taken care of, helping, serving, laughing, hugging, guiding, being the change I want to see, being a bright spot, being the safe place, celebrating life, being celebrated. I wish I could somehow snap my fingers and make everyone do THOSE THINGS for themselves and each other every day with no other motives in mind. Be strong, Y’all. Think, please. Love. That’s all we’ve got.

That’s all. We learn every day, don’t we?
