What do y’all think it means if you’ve “let yourself go”?
Are you eating ice cream straight from the carton, curled up on the couch in sweats, most weekends? Girl.
Took a shower…maybe yesterday? Sister.
Wear your husband’s old, holey softball tournament tshirt and faded leggings…with Uggs… to the grocery store? Sweet Friend.
We do get lazy sometimes and let ourselves go. I mean, don’t get me wrong, wear the tshirt and the sweats and eat the cookies-and-cream while you watch your show late on a Friday night, Queen. I’m just saying let’s keep our wits about us and don’t forget who we are…and don’t let him… and those kids…forget!
Let’s get up, get clean, and smell good. Even if life is hard. Let’s wear the good panties and the real bra, not the bottom-of- the-drawer last resorts and that stretched-out blue sports bra. Even if we don’t know what to do next. Let’s brush our hair and show up. Maybe even slap on some lip gloss. Even if we are sick of it all.
And let’s let ourselves go…
Go set the record straight, get some clarity, and demand an apology (or yikes…offer one).
Go get new hair, fresh nails, or new shoes, and start feeling like a real woman.
Go take the class, do the thing, take the chance, and start making things happen for ourselves.
Go do some major pest control. Rid your circle of the drama mamas, the naysayers, the pessimists, and the victims.
Go get therapy. Ask for help. Seek guidance. Or go be the change. Do a few good deeds, and offer some kindness where it might be needed.
No yoga pants and pralines and cream are going to move our lives forward in a meaningful direction, Y’all. We can’t send our kids the “it’s okay to give up on yourself” message. And we for damn sure can’t expect our husbands to eagerly embrace the new, slovenly, stinky us.
Let’s be sure we never “let ourselves go”, but let’s LET OURSELVES GO! Give yourself permission…let yourself go create the life you want. Get back up, and try again. Don’t give in and give up. Go do what sets your soul on fire.
Let yourself go!
